  • Connecticut Continuing Education FAQs

    Who is required to complete continuing education?
    All resident newly or reinstated producers licensed in Property/Casualty, Life, Accident and Health, or Personal Lines. Producers licensed only for credit or travel insurance DO NOT have a continuing education requirement. Non-Residents DO NOT have a CE requirement.

    How many credit hours are required?
    A total of 24 credit hours of approved continuing education are required. Of the 24, a minimum of 3 credit hours in Laws/Regulation/Ethics, 6 credit hours pertaining directly to the line of authority and the balance of the credits may be any combination or type.

    Are there required courses if I want to sell or do sell annuities, long term care or flood insurance?
    Yes. There are additional courses required if you sell or wish to sell annuities, flood insurance or long-term care products. All states require licensees who sell flood insurance to complete a one-time course that is at least three hours in length.  Several states require courses to represent annuity products and long term care products.     When does the requirement need to be met?
    Continuing education is due every 2 years on your birthdate/expiry date. Your course work should be completed well before the expiration date to receive your renewed
    license in a timely manner.

    Can excess credits be carried over from one license period to the next?
    No. Excess credits may not be carried over from one license period to the next.

    May I duplicate a course?
    A duplicated course will only be awarded once towards your CE requirement. You may repeat the course as long as it is taken in different compliance
    periods.

  • District of Columbia Licensing Requirements

    Individuals who wish to obtain an insurance license in the District of Columbia must:

    1. Make a reservation and pay examination fee.
      1. Make a reservation online or by phone with Pearson VUE for the Examination. When visiting the Pearson Vue website be sure to review their Candidate Handbook for all details pertaining to your exam.
    1. Go to the test center.
      1. Go to the test center on the day of the examination, bringing along all required materials (see Pearson Vue’s Candidate Handbook)
    1. Apply for a license.

    Implementation of Fingerprinting Requirements 

    Effective Monday, August 9, 2010, any applicant who passes the examination to become a resident DC Insurance Producer, must submit to fingerprinting and a background check through the DC Metropolitan Police Department prior to being granted a license. Additionally, every nonresident producer who becomes a resident producer on or after August 9, 2010, must also submit to fingerprinting and background checks.     What to expect and how to best prepare for your state exam:

    Resident applicants must either take or pass an examinations in the area for which they are applying or have had a like license/authority in another jurisdiction within 90 days of applying for a resident license.

    With the exception initial resident license for Bail Bonds authority, the licensing examination is administered by Pearson Vue, DISB’s contract vendor for testing.

  • Arizona Licensing Requirements

    Individuals applying for the following insurance licenses must pass prelicense examinations:

    • Arizona resident insurance producer (except for travel or baggage insurance producers and except for individuals relocating from another state to Arizona within 90 days of cancellation of the other state's license)
    • Arizona resident surplus lines broker (except for Mexican insurance surplus lines broker)

    Arizona Insurance Producer Fingerprint Requirement

    You must provide fingerprints applied to an FBI fingerprint card if you have not already provided a fingerprint card to the Arizona Department of Insurance within the past the year and either:

    • You are a resident of Arizona and do not already hold an insurance license; or
    • You are applying for an adjuster license and you do not hold an adjuster license in your home state.
    • If you are adding a line of authority to an existing Arizona insurance license, you are not required to submit fingerprints.

  • Arizona State Exam Information

    Prometric, a national testing provider, will administer the license examination. Before you can test, you must contact Prometric to:

    • Register for your exam by providing your social security number and contact information
    • If you choose, register for Prometric's fingerprinting services
    • Pay the exam fee and, if applicable, the fingerprinting fee
    • Schedule an appointment to take an examination

    Who administers the examination and how do I schedule it?
