ProSchools joined forces with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, August 25, 2007, helping several families at the Dwight Ave/New Columbia work site.
Several ProSchools’ staff eagerly learned how to build a fence.
Two of the staff mastered the art of how to put in Pergo flooring, while others spent the day beautifully painting bedrooms and a bathroom. It was both fun and rewarding, as each person learned a new skill and the direct results were evident by the end of the day.
The house ProSchools worked on was for a man by the name of Wasengalo and his family. Wasengalo and his wife fled Congo in 1996. They lived in a refugee camp for 7 years in Zambia. In 2003 the family immigrated and have lived in a small apartment in Northeast Portland since arriving. Wasengalo now works as a professional painter. He and his wife have 5 children.
The family was very thankful to ProSchools for all the help. The children were especially excited to see their house getting closer and closer to being done. It was a fun day for all; taking the time to make a difference by helping others reach the dream of owning a home!
