ProSchools staff spent a busy Saturday in June packing bulk food, sorting canned goods, labeling packages and completing mailing projects for the Oregon Food Bank in Northeast Portland.
Many staff brought family members to share in the day. Staff were impressed to learn about the Oregon Food Bank’s role in
collecting and distributing food to 20
regional food banks.
Some quick facts learned that day:
- 71,030 children need emergency food in
an average month
- 37% of those eating from a food bank are children
- 192,000 people eat meals from
an emergency food
box in an
average month
- 4 million emergency meals were served in soup kitchens and
shelters last year
- For every $1 contributed, Oregon Food Bank can collect and
distribute 5 pounds of food through its food distribution program
It was a rewarding day for all involved, being a part of a bigger picture to relieve hunger in a very practical way.
