Washington Real Estate Property Management Licenses: Frequently Asked Questions

When does a person managing property in Washington need to get a Washington real estate license?
If you are going to manage property for more than one owner, you need a real estate salesperson’s license in Washington as required by the state.

Exemptions to this, according to Washington law, include:

  1. Any owner of rental property, or members of the owner's family (whether or not residing on such property);
  2. A resident manager of a complex of residential dwelling units where the manager resides;
  3. Any person who manages residential dwelling units on an incidental basis and not as his or her principal source of income; and
  4. Any person who owns or manages a self-service storage facility.

Should I get any additional books on the subject?
Sure, reading as much as you can about succeeding as a property manager is a wise strategy. ProSchools offers an array of books, in our online bookstore.
