Washington State Real Estate License Requirements
To obtain a new real estate license in Washington, you need to:
- Complete the education requirements. You must complete a 60-hour, state-approved prelicense course, Real Estate Fundamentals, within the five years prior to applying for the license exam. Upon completion, you will receive a signed and stamped Candidate Examination Document. ProSchools’ program includes interesting reading assignments and frequent practice quizzes to prepare you to pass the state license exam.
- Pass a salesperson license exam with a score of 70% or better. The exam consists of 80 national and 30 state-specific questions. When you complete ProSchools’ program, you’ll have over a 95% chance of passing.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Complete a license application and pay the corresponding fee.

If you are a salesperson licensed in another state, you need to:
- Request a license history/verification be sent from the regulatory agency of the state in which you are actively licensed to the Washington Department of Licensing.
- Complete a Candidate Examination Document and send it to the Washington Department of Licensing Washington Department of Licensing.
- Receive stamped approval on the Candidate Examination Document from the Department of Licensing before making an exam reservation.
- Pass the state portion of the salesperson license exam (30 questions) with a score of 70% or better.

Washington Real Estate License Exam Information
Washington real estate license applicants must pass a computerized license examination administered by Pearson Vue, a national testing firm. To schedule an exam, you can call them toll-free at 1-800-274-5985 or visit www.pearsonvue.com. You are encouraged to reserve your exam date at least three to four business days prior.
To schedule an exam, Pearson Vue will require the following:
- Personal information - legal name, address, phone, SSN, date of birth
- Exam specifics - exam type (salesperson, broker), preferred date and test center location
- Stamped Candidate Examination Document
- Failing score report (if retaking an exam)
- Exam fees paid in full

Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need to show your photo ID to the test administrator. Then a brief online tutorial will familiarize you with the computerized testing system before you answer 110 multiple-choice questions.
You will have four (4) hours to complete the exam. Be sure to attempt to answer every question. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the real estate exam. Your score will be available immediately. A passing score is valid for one year.
