Colorado Real Estate License Requirements
To obtain a real estate broker license in Colorado, you need to:
- Complete the educational requirements. You must complete
a state-approved prelicense program like ProSchools’.
Ours includes study materials, questions, and practice quizzes and exams to complete online.
- Complete a background check. Submit to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a set of fingerprints and a processing fee to conduct a criminal background check. We encourage you to submit your documentation promptly because processing can take several weeks.
- Pass the CO real estate license exam. You will need
to pass a 154-question multiple-choice exam with a score of 75% or better.
When you complete ProSchools’ program, you will have over a 95%
chance of passing.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a U.S. citizen/national or alien authorized to work in the United States.
- Complete a license application and pay the corresponding fee. The associate broker license application will be provided to you at the test site upon successfully passing the Colorado real estate exam.
If you are an agent licensed in another state, you need
to:
- Contact the State of Colorado Real Estate Commission to
determine if Colorado has a reciprocal licensing agreement with the state
in which you are actively licensed.
- Request a license history/verification be sent from
the regulatory agency of the state in which you are actively licensed
to the Colorado Real Estate Commission.
- Complete a background check. Submit to the State of Colorado
Real Estate Commission a completed background
check form with one set of fingerprints and a processing fee.
- Complete the educational requirements. Salespersons
licensed in another state must complete a state-approved prelicense
program like ProSchools’. Ours includes study materials, questions,
and practice quizzes and exams to complete on your home computer.
- Pass the CO real estate license exam. In most cases,
you will need to pass a multiple-choice broker license exam with a score
of 75% or better. When you complete
ProSchools’ program, you will have over a 95% chance of passing.
- Submit a completed license application form and appropriate
fee.

Colorado Real Estate License Exam Information
Colorado real estate license applicants must pass a computerized exam administered by PSI, a national testing firm with exam sites in Colorado Springs, Durango, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greenwood Village (Denver), Pueblo, Wheat Ridge (Denver).
To schedule an exam, you can call them toll-free at 1-800-733-9267 or visit www.psiexams.com. You are encouraged to reserve your exam date at least three to four business days prior.
To register, mail the exam application with the appropriate fee to the Colorado Real Estate Commission. You
can submit it with the background check or before, during, or upon completing
your coursework. After processing your application, the Colorado Real Estate Agency
will send you an exam eligibility letter and scheduling information. You are encouraged
to reserve your exam date at least three to four business days prior.
To schedule your exam, PSI will require the following:
- Personal information - legal name, address, phone,
SSN, date of birth
- Exam specifics - exam type, preferred date, and
test center location
- Eligibility letter personal identification number

Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need to show your photo
ID to the test administrator. Then a brief online tutorial will familiarize
you with the computerized testing system before you answer 154 multiple-choice
questions.
You will have 230 minutes to complete the exam. Be sure to attempt to
answer every question. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass the
real estate exam. Your score will be available immediately. A passing
score is valid for one year.
