ProSchools gets approval for Washington NMLS Education

ProSchools’ Instructor-led Online Training Approved for Washington NMLS Education

ProSchools, an NMLS-approved provider, has received approval for the Washington mortgage loan originator course. This comprehensive course meets the 20-Hour NMLS education requirement for Washington loan originators.

The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (referred to as “SAFE Act”), passed a year ago, gave states one year to pass legislation requiring mortgage loan originators become licensed according to national standards. These standards include passing a national exam and fulfilling minimum education requirements.

Washington’s transition plan for mortgage originators to meet the exam and education requirements will roll out over the next year. Those licensed prior to July 30, 2009 will have until June 30, 2010 to complete all the requirements.

Washington loan originators applicants applying on or after July 31, 2009 must pass the NMLS exam before obtaining a license and will need to complete the 20-hour NMLS-approved education by December 31, 2009.

As of January 1, 2010, Washington loan originators will need to pass the NMLS exam and complete the 20-hour NMLS-approved pre-license education prior to licensing.

“ProSchools received NMLS provider approval in July and we just received approval for our 20-Hour Washington SAFE Comprehensive course,” says Deanne Gillock, Regulatory Director for ProSchools. “Our courses are instructor-led online, giving students’ flexibility so they can continue work while staying in compliance with requirements of the SAFE Act.”
