ProSchools Approved to Offer Louisiana NMLS Education

ProSchools SAFE Courses Approved to Satisfy NMLS Education Requirement in Louisiana

ProSchools, an NMLS-approved provider, received course approval notification from the NMLS for the Louisiana SAFE Comprehensive course. This online instructor-led course meets 20 of the NMLS education hours for Louisiana mortgage loan originators.

The “SAFE Act” (Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008), signed by President Bush in July 2008, gave states a year to pass legislation requiring loan originators meet national standards. Those standards include passing a background check, demonstrating financial responsibility, meeting minimum education requirements, and passing a state & national exam.

As of July 31, 2009, to be a licensed loan originator in Louisiana an individual must complete 24 hours of NMLS-approved education. Louisiana loan originators must also take 4 hours of NMLS-approved education through either the Mortgage Bankers Association or the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. Anyone licensed or that was exempt from licensing prior to July 31, 2009 has until July 31, 2010 to satisfy the NMLS education requirement.
