ProSchools Receives NMLS Approval for Idaho S.A.F.E. Comprehensive Course
ProSchools' Idaho NMLS Education Approved by NMLS
ProSchools, an NMLS-approved provider, has been approved to offer the 20-Hour Idaho SAFE Comprehensive Course. This training course meets the NMLS education requirements for Idaho mortgage loan originators.
The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (referred to as “SAFE Act”), passed a year ago, gave individual states a year to pass legislation that would require loan originators to be licensed according to national standards. Two of those standards include passing a comprehensive exam and fulfilling minimum education requirements.
Under the new law, Idaho mortgage loan originator must complete 20 hours of NMLS approved prelicense education, pass the NMLS exam, complete a background check, and demonstrate financial responsibility. Anyone licensed on or after July 1, 2009 has until July 31, 2010 to complete the education and pass the exam. Anyone licensed prior to July 1, 2009 has until January 1, 2011 to satisfy the education requirements and pass the exam.
“ProSchools’ Idaho SAFE Comprehensive course is NMLS-approved and it serves double duty,” says Deanne Gillock, Regulatory Director for ProSchools. “Mortgage originators are required to complete the hours of study, but they can also use their coursework as a study tool to help them prepare for the NMLS exam. Students can study the material at length, testing themselves to discover areas of weakness."
Pearson VUE or Prometric administers the NMLS exam, a two-part test. It consists of a State and National component.
"Our primary goal is to help loan originators pass the NMLS exam and meet education requirements," continues Gillock. "But another equally important objective is we want to serve as a resource to mortgage companies. It's complicated! ProSchools wants to help companies understand the most efficient way to help their loan originators meet NMLS requirements.”
ProSchools has received NMLS approval for the 20-Hour SAFE Comprehensive Courses in Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
Idaho has licensed mortgage loan originators since January of 2006 and is among the first states to join the NMLS as of January of 2008.
ProSchools is awaiting approval of courses in additional states. All ProSchools 20-hour courses are designed to not only meet the 20-hour educational requirement, but to help loan originators pass the state and national exams.
For loan originators just seeking help in passing the exam, ProSchools offers complete exam prep for both the national and state components of the NMLS licensing exam. For details check out www.proschools.com/mortgage_lending.
