Wisconsin Mortgage Broker License Requirements
You’re required by Wisconsin law to take and pass an exam. The exam covers state and federal laws and rules relating to mortgage lending. 

To work as a mortgage loan originator or loan solicitor in Wisconsin, you need to:

  1. Study. The State of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions has a study guide on their website.
  2. Locate a test center.
  3. Request a Criminal Background check (CIB)
  4. Take and Pass the state mortgage lending exam.
  5. Submit your application online at www.pulseportal.com. Select Wisconsin and click Submit a License Application.

Wisconsin Mortgage Lending License Exam Information

Wisconsin law requires all entry level students pass a state-approved exam prior to working as a loan originator or loan solicitor.

New Wisconsin mortgage lenders must pass a computerized license examination administered at Pearson Vue facilities across the United States. To schedule an exam date and time, visit www.pearsonvue.com. You are encouraged to reserve your exam date early.

To schedule an exam, you will need to provide the following information:

  1. Personal information – legal name, address, e-mail address, phone number, Social Security Number and date of birth.
  2. The name of the examination
  3. Preferred examination date and test center location
  4. Exam fees paid in full by credit card

Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need:

  • two pieces of ID (one photo-bearing)
  • Criminal Background check
  • VISA or Mastercard to pay the license fee
  • Employer Information sheet
  • Confirmation number provided when the reservation was made

Candidates will have three hours to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. Candidates who pass the examination may apply for a license at the test center, on the web, or with a paper applicaiton. You will leave the test center with your official scores.
