Meet Ohio Mortgage Broker License Requirements & Pass The State Exam With ProSchools  

Ohio Mortgage Broker License Requirements
Beginning January 1, 2007, applicants must provide evidence that they have completed twenty-four hours of prelicensing education provided by a vendor approved by the Division and pass a knowledge exam. ProSchools currently does not offer a program of study for Ohio. Please contact the Ohio Department of Commerce for a list of approved schools.

To work as a mortgage loan officer or operation manager in Ohio, you need to:

  1. Complete and sign an original Mortgage Loan Officer License Application. Include a non-refundable application fee in the amount of $100.
  2. Complete an approved twenty-four hour prelicensing course. Beginning January 1, 2007, applicants must provide evidence that they have completed twenty-four hours of live pre-licensing education provided by a vendor approved by the Division. ProSchools currently does not offer a program of study for Ohio. Please contact the Ohio Department of Commerce for a list of approved schools.
  3. Include one original Certificate of Employment with your license application. The Certificate of Employment must be completed by the mortgage broker with whom the applicant is or will be exclusively employed as a loan officer or operations manager.
  4. Submit to an electronic background check.
  5. Pass a knowledge exam. Once approved for testing, you will have a 90-day eligibility period to the pass the exam with a 70% or better. You can retake the exam as many times as needed in this time period. The loan officer exam has 75 questions and two hours to complete. The operations manager exam has 100 questions and two and one-half hours to complete.

Ohio Mortgage Lending License Exam Information

Ohio law requires all entry level students pass a state-approved exam prior to working as a loan officer or operations manager. You must submit an application to the Division and be authorized by the Division to test as a loan officer or operations manager before you can register for and schedule your exam.

New Ohio mortgage loan officers and operations managers must pass a computerized license examination administered at Prometric. To schedule an exam date and time, visit www.prometric.com/ohio. You are encouraged to reserve your exam date early.

To schedule an exam, you will need to provide the following information:

  1. Personal information – legal name, address, e-mail address, phone number, Social Security Number and date of birth.
  2. The name of the examination
  3. Preferred examination date and test center location
  4. Exam fees paid in full by credit card
  5. Eligibility code found on the address label of your Notice of Eligibility.

Visit www.prometric.com/ohio for more exam reservation guidelines. Scheduled test dates vary widely by location. Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need to show a valid form of identification that contains both a current photo, your signature and has a name that exactly matches the name used to register for the exam. The test administrator will direct you to a computer where you can access the exam. Loan originators will have two hours to answer 75 multiple-choice questions. Operations managers will have two and one-half hours to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. At the end of your exam, your score will shown on the screen and you will receive a printed score report indicating whether you passed or failed. If you do not pass, you will receive a retake application with your score report. Prometric electronically transmits score report information to the Division daily.
