Meet Louisiana Residential Mortgage Loan Originator License Requirements & Pass The State Exam With ProSchools

 

Louisiana Residential Mortgage Loan Originator License Requirements
Effective January 1, 2000, anyone who engages in residential mortgage lending activities including mortgage lenders, brokers and originators must be licensed.

To work as a mortgage broker, lender or originator in Louisiana, you need to:

  1. Complete a background check. Submit to the Office of Financial Institutions two sets of fingerprints and a processing fee.
  2. Pass the required examination or if exempt from the examination, you must submit proof of 10 hours of continuing education.
  3. Submit a completed Uniform Residential Mortgage Loan Originator Application (form MU4). Each application must include the following:
  • $100 application fee
  • $45.25 background check fee (background check/fingerprint cards)
  • Proof of W-2 employment status (a copy of your W-4 form)
  • Proof of examination results or proof of education requirements

Louisiana Mortgage Lending License Exam Information

To schedule an exam, you will need to provide the following information:

  1. Personal information – legal name, address, Social Security Number, daytime telephone number and date of birth.
  2. Exam fees paid in full by credit card

Visit PSI for more exam reservation guidelines, and a list of all PSI test center locations and hours of operation. Examinations are administered by appointment only Monday through Friday. Individuals are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

To gain admission to the test center, you must present two forms of identification, one with a current photograph. Both forms of identification must be current and include your current name and signature. It is suggested you bring the User (PSI) ID number provided when the reservation was made, failing score report (if the candidate is retaking an examination) and a hand-held, nonprogrammable, silent calculator. Acceptable forms of identification include a current:

  1. Driver's license with photograph
  2. State identification card with photograph
  3. Passport
  4. Military identification card with photograph
  5. Social security card (secondary form)

Employment ID cards, student ID cards and any type of temporary identification are NOT acceptable as primary identification, but may be used as secondary identification.

The Loan Originator exam has 100 questions and you will have 180 minutes to complete the examination. The examination will end automatically after the examination time has expired. You will leave the test center with your official scores in hand.

If you pass the examination, you will immediately receive a successful notification on the screen. License application forms for submittal to the Office of Financial Institutions will be available at the test center.

If you do not pass the examination, you will immediately receive an unsuccessful notification on the screen along with a diagnostic report indicating your strengths and weaknesses by exam type. Registration forms for submittal to PSI to retake the examination will be available at the test center.
