What are the continuing education and testing requirements?
Louisiana requires all licensed residential mortgage lenders (includes mortgage lenders and brokers) to complete ten hours of continuing education each year prior to the December 1 renewal date. Two of those hours must cover the RMLA orientation and four of the remaining hours must be courses approved by the Mortgage Bankers Association or the National Association of Mortgage Brokers.
Can I carry over continuing education hours from one renewal cycle
to the next?
No.
What happens if I don’t complete my continuing education requirement?
Any person who fails to meet the continuing education requirement may not function as a mortgage broker or mortgage lender.
Do I need to be licensed to engage in residential mortgage lending?
Effective January 1, 2000, anyone who engages in residential mortgage lending activities including mortgage lenders, brokers and originators must be licensed. Visit our Licensing Requirements page for detailed license requirements.
