Florida Mortgage Broker License Requirements
To obtain a mortgage broker license in the state of Florida, you must:
- Submit an application. Mortgage broker applicants may submit an application and payment through the Office of Financial Regulation's website. All fees are non-refundable. Within 30 days from the receipt of the application, a fingerprint card will be mailed.
- Take state examination. The mortgage broker test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. You must have a 75% or better to receive a passing score. You will have 3-hours to complete the test.
- Complete a 24-hour prelicensing course. Upon completion of a 24-hour prelicensing course, the school will submit a list of individuals who have completed the course to the Office so you will not need to submit evidence of completing the 24-hour course.
Once an application is approved, the license is generally mailed within 2 weeks.
Florida Mortgage Broker License Exam Information
The mortgage broker test is generally given beginning on the 4th Tuesday of each month except November and December when testing begins on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
The Office will only grant test assignments for applications received on or before the 15th day of the month for the following month's test. Test admission letters, including a map to the assigned test site, will be mailed to the address on the application form approximately 2 weeks prior to the scheduled test date. The test admission letter will specify the exact date, time and location.
Individual test results will be be mailed within 10 business days following the test date. Upon passing the examination, the Office will conduct a final review of the application and determine its final outcome. This process generally takes 30 days from the date that all requirements are satisfied.
Mortgage broker test candidates should arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled test. Candidates should bring:
- Government issued identification
- Two #2 pencils
- Silent non-programmable basic calculator
