Pennsylvania Insurance License Renewal & Continuing Education: Frequently Asked Questions

What are continuing education requirements for renewing my Pennsylvania insurance license?
Pennsylvania insurance licenses are required to complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education credits to maintain their license. Failure to complete the minimum 24-hour requirement during your two-year licensing cycle will result in the termination of your license.

What are the terms of insurance producer licenses?
Pennsylvania insurance producer licenses must be renewed every two years.

What course can I take to satisfy my CE requirement?
You may complete any Pennsylvania CE approved course to satisfy your CE requirement- regardless of your line(s) of authority.

Can I carry hours over to my next renewal period?
Yes. A maximum of 24 hours of excess credit may be carried forward to your next license period.

I took a course last renewal that I really liked. Can I take again and receive CE credit?
Courses may be repeated in different license periods for credit. If you take a course more than once in the same renewal period, you will get credit only once.

What happens if I do not complete my application correctly or if I do not complete my continuing education
If your application is not correctly completed, or your continuing education is not completed, your license will not renew. The Department will generate a report for all licenses that do not renew and proper action is taken and a comment will be made on your record.
