Oregon CCB Contractor License Requirements

To get your contractor license in Oregon, you need to:

  1. Complete the education requirements. You must complete a 16-hour program of study approved by the Oregon CCB like Pro Schools’. You can enroll in the home-study program or attend live classes. Simply choose what works best for you!
  2. Pass the Oregon contractor license exam. You will need to pass an 80-question multiple-choice exam with a score of 70% or better. When you complete ProSchools’ program, you will have over a 93% chance of passing the exam the first time.
  3. Purchase a surety bond.
  4. Purchase general liability insurance.
  5. Complete the Oregon CCB application and pay the corresponding fee. As part of this process, you will need to register as a legal business entity (e.g., individual proprietorship, partnership, corporation, LLC) with the state.

Incomplete application packets may delay receiving your license. Read more details in the Oregon Construction Contractors Board License Application booklet prepared by the CCB.

After you’ve completed the 16-hour course, ProSchools will electronically forward your name to the Oregon CCB database, indicating that you’ve fulfilled the educational requirement. Please allow two days after completing your coursework for us to notify the CCB.

As of June 1. 2009, you have 24 months from the training completion date to pass the state test and obtain a CCB license. Any training going past 24 months will not be valid!

Oregon Contractor License Exam Information

As of April 16, 2009, testing is administered through Prometric. To schedule your test through visit Prometric's web site or call 800-462-8669. You can also download the Candidate Handbook for more information. To schedule your exam you will need the following:

  1. Personal information - full legal name (including middle name), address, birth date
  2. Number from government-issued photo-ID: driver’s license, DMV identification card, passport, US military ID, or green card.
  3. Exam specifics - preferred date and test center location
  4. Electronically verified course completion from ProSchools/CCB
  5. Exam fee - payable via credit card, cashier’s check or money order

Upon arriving at the test center, you’ll need to show your photo ID to the test administrator. Showing the same ID to both ProSchools and PSI will reduce possible name confusion and help distinguish between contractors who have similar names.

The exam is open book. You may take your Oregon Construction Contractors Reference Manual and a calculator with you to the testing room. No other loose-leaf pages or books are allowed. A brief online tutorial will familiarize you with the computerized testing system before you answer 80 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. All questions are equally weighed. Be sure to attempt to answer every question.

You will have two hours to complete the exam. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass. Your score will be available immediately.
