Montana Mortgage Lending Resources

Continuing Education Requirements

The SAFE Act requires Montana licensed mortgage loan originators to meet annual continuing education requirements. The minimum continuing education requirements to renew a mortgage loan originator license in Montana are:
  • Complete 8 hours of NMLS-approved continuing education. The education must include a minimum of:
    • three hours of federal mortgage law;
    • two hours of ethics;
    • two hours related to the nontraditional mortgage market place.
House Bill 90 reduced the number of continuing education hours from 12 to 8! To renew a MLO license for 2012, all licensees will need to complete 8 hours of continuing education during 2011. For information on Montana license renewal requirements, visit the Montana Division of Banking and Financial Institutions website or the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System website.
