Oregon’s New Principal Broker Licensing Requirements

Getting your principal broker’s license can open the door to a lot of opportunities for you. You may open your own real estate business, manage a real estate office for an established firm and supervise other brokers or property managers. You may continue to work under your managing broker but with a PB license, you can hire, supervise and train others to work for you and establish your own business under your managing broker. You may also choose to just keep selling, but establish yourself as a principal broker within your network.

How do I get my Principle Broker’s License?

Currently, the State of Oregon requires you to be supervised under another principal broker and licensed for three years to apply for your principal broker’s license. You must also pass a BASS (Brokerage Administration and Sales Supervision) course, which is offered by ProSchools under our Principal Broker section.  After completing the BASS course, you will need to change your status with the Real Estate Agency and pay the appropriate fees. The Real Estate Agency will issue you a  Principal Broker License.

New Rules Take Effect January 1, 2011
As of January, 1, 2011, all principal broker applicants will need to pass a state-administered Principal Broker exam and pay appropriate fees for the exam.  The applicant must also pass the BASS course and be licensed and supervised for three years as previously required.

If you are thinking of getting your principal broker’s license, you might want to act soon to avoid having to pay for and pass the new state exam!
