Every state is a little different when it comes to mortgage originator continuing education. Here is a quick look at Utah’s renewal requirement:
If you are a Utah mortgage loan originator and got licensed prior to October 1, 2009, you need to complete 14 hours of Utah DRE or NMLS-approved continuing education in 2010 in order to renew for 2011.
If you were licensed as a mortgage loan originator after October 1, 2009, you must complete 8 hours of Utah DRE or NMLS-approved continuing education in 2010 in order to renew for 2011.
ProSchools has 6 mortgage originator courses that are state-approved in Utah, good through December 31, 2010. We also offer NMLS-approved continuing education. They are actually called SAFE Continuing Education. Starting January 1, 2011, the Utah Real Estate Division will only accept NMLS-approved continuing education courses to renew a loan originator license. One important note for those taking the state-approved courses this year, our courses expire December 31, 2010, so you won’t get any credit after that date.
Bottomline for this year: UT mortgage loan originators can take state-approved courses or NMLS-approved courses to renew their license for 2011. You need 8 hours or 14 hours, depending on when you were licensed. Check out ProSchools’ FAQ page for more information.
