On July 1, 2010, Alaska passed and signed into law the Alaska SAFE Act 2010, bringing the state into compliance with the Federal SAFE Act.
Looks like Alaska mortgage loan originators licensed before July 1, 2010 will need to complete 20 hrs of NMLS education by November 1. New Alaska loan originators (those applying after July 1), need to complete the 20 hrs of NMLS-approved education before getting licensed.
Then there’s the SAFE MLO Test requirement. All licensees need to pass the National Component of the SAFE Test by November 1, 2010. Alaska has had a state exam in place for several years, which means currently licensed MLOs who’ve passed the Alaska test (by November 4, 2010), may be able to get the State Component of the test certified. Check with the state for more on certification. The SAFE State Component will be available starting November 5th.
To sum up: get your 20 hours of education done now (no one is exempt), and take your National Test right away. You need to pass either the Alaska-administered test or the SAFE State Component. Read more on the latest requirements for Alaska mortgage loan originators.
