The ProSchools NMLS Course and Exam Prep Update

The wheels keep turning at ProSchools where our focus is getting all the state-required hours approved and offering exam prep courses where there are no mandated state hours.

We are waiting for approval on the 4-hour Ohio mortgage laws and the 4-hour Mississippi laws. ProSchools submitted the courses awhile ago but there are new Functional Specifications for NMLS Approved Instructor Online-Led Courses and all courses submitted now and in the future must meet this new standard.  Once we get the Ohio Laws and MS Laws approved by the NMLS, we will have a course for every state requiring state-specific hours.

ProSchools has a lot of courses available for exam prep. These state-specific courses are not approved, but rather are intended to help loan originators prepare for the State Component of the SAFE Test. We use the state content outline that is posted by each state and develop material, lessons, and quizzes to study. One reminder to loan originators: education providers do not know what is on the test. We are not allowed to take the test!  For ProSchools, the goal is to present the information in such a way that our students understand the content, not just memorize a set of questions and answers.

In the last couple of weeks we have added a state exam prep for Oklahoma, Mississippi (not the mandated hours), Ohio (not the mandated hours), South Carolina, North Dakota, and Alabama.

Here’s a look at all the states we’ve created an exam prep for: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Part of ProSchools’ strategy has been to look at state deadlines.  States that have end-of-year deadlines are the ones we are working on now.  Where this becomes a bit fuzzy is that a lot of states have more than one deadline for their licensees.  New loan originators have one deadline.  Existing licensees have another.  Sometimes there’s a third group. And to make it even funner, some states have one deadline for the education and another deadline for the SAFE Test. AND (I’m not done!), some states have more than one department overseeing mortgage licensees!  Whew!  Just give ProSchools a call if you need helping figuring out your deadline: 800-452-4879.
