In the discussion forum segment of our mortgage lending course, people get the chance to relate interesting or humorous things that they’ve seen or done while working on loans for their clients. Here are a few of the best stories reported recently...
A loan officer had to leave before finishing a client interview because he got horribly seasick. He was taking an application aboard the client's yacht. The yacht was tied to the dock… but the seas were choppy that day!
A professional athlete applying for a mortgage loan had to have his attorney present to look over every aspect of the application… including advising the guy of his correct and “admissible” present address!
A borrower showed up at closing with $50,000 for a down payment without telling anyone he was going to bring it. He was upset because the docs couldn't simply be “fixed” right there on the spot. And of course, he had the money in cash.
Another couple also applying for a mortgage brought cash with them to the application interview. The money was neatly arranged in several plastic packages but had a horrible chemical smell to them. They nonchalantly explained that this was so drug sniffing dogs wouldn't hit on it.
And, though they are cute, babies will be babies. And sometimes at the worst possible time. A couple was signing docs for their re-fi when their little guy expressed his displeasure in such a way that everyone had to evacuate the conference room. Soon, everyone in the office had scarves and tissues covering their noses because the odor was so pervasive. Eventually the papers got signed on the hood of a car in the parking lot while somebody ran to the store to buy cans of air freshener. The couple was highly embarrassed and apologetic but in the end everyone had a laugh over the episode.
Who said writing mortgage loans isn't fun and exciting?
