Update on 2011 NMLS Continuing Education Requirements

The last couple of years have been a bumpy ride! The continuing education requirement in 2010 was not always clear, especially when mortgage loan originators werevlicensed in multiple states. And to top it off, did you need to take state-approved education or NMLS-aproved education? The good news is this year the continuing education requirement for mortgage loan originators is much clearer! All mortgage loan originators will need to take NMLS-approved continuing education in 2011, unless they took prelicense education to obtain their license in 2011.

The only question is which states require state-specific law hours and/or hours above the minimum SAFE Act-mandated hours. Thankfully the NMLS has posted a chart detailing how many hours are required and if state law hours are required for every state! Another good source of what each state requires is www.proschools.com. Be sure and periodically check back with the NMLS and ProSchools' website for any changes in state regulations that may impact 2011 license renewal requirements.
