I’ve spent a lot of time writing about NMLS compliance, mortgage originator education and the SAFE Test, along with numerous updates regarding state deadlines. One area equally important for mortgage loan originators (and I’ve not talked about much), is completing the Criminal Background Check (CBC) process. Every mortgage loan originator is required to complete one in NMLS.
There are new applicants and existing licensees. New applicants wanting to get licensed as a loan originator need to request the CBC with the submission of their license application. Existing mortgage originators need to request the CBC by the deadline set by their state. Keep in mind, even if someone has already been fingerprinted for their state in the past, they still have to be fingerprinted again.
Haven’t done your CBC yet? Read the Getting Started: CBC for information on how to begin the CBC process.
