Insurance Examination Changes: Important!

Good Morning everyone. As the new year is approaching, we are seeing some changes on the state insurance licensing examinations! There are a number of states that are either (1) changing what is tested, by adding or deleting material from the test content outline, and (2) in Oregon, by bringing in a brand new testing provider! Anytime we see a new test provider, the content commonly changes at the same time. It's critically important that the insurance testing candidate understand exactly what is going to be tested and how the test is broken down within a given state. The test content outlines provide a "road map" to the insurance licensing candidate and should be an integral part of test preparation. What follows is the most current information regarding test changes in many states.

Please refer to the following information regarding specifics within a given state. All ProSchools students that are caught in the transition will see an announcement on their "course page" that will show the changes in a particular state. It's important to review this additional information as it will be part of the insurance exam when the test changes. Each state has a change date listed below.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________ OREGON: Change Date 01/01/2011 Oregon is not only changing the test content but has brought a new testing provider into the mix. The new testing provider under contract with Oregon is PSI. PSI is out of Las Vegas, Nevada and provides testing in a number of different areas. The testing through PSI will begin January 1, 2011. The PSI website does not yet contain the Candidate Handbook or the Content Outlines... this should be available shortly. You can access PSI by clicking HERE for their site. We have gotten an advance copy of the Bulletin and the Content Outline. Stay tuned for additional info on changes that are occurring- this will be posted in the blog asap. Oregon is also changing the process by which candidates will apply, test and receive their insurance license once successfully past the examination. Please refer to an article previously posted: Click HERE for the article that details the process changes in Oregon.

Colorado: Change Date 01/01/2011
Colorado is still testing through Pearson-Vue and has made some changes to the materials being tested. There are approximately 20 additional concepts that have been added to the test and a number of items that have been deleted from the content outline. ProSchools has the new content information and is in the process of changing the course to reflect the new material and content. Expected release date is 12/12/10.

Nevada: Change Date 01/23/2011
We are not anticipating great changes for the insurance testing content when Nevada changes their test effective on January 23, 2011. Some changes in process have been authorized and these changes will make your life a bit easier thanks to the wonderful world of electronic reporting and certification. Effective a short while ago, the Nevada DOI is going fully electronic when it comes to your licensing, renewal and prelicense certificates of completion. Reporting is now done through a company known as Sircon. This will mean less paperwork and easier reporting of prelicense and continuing education completions. If you have taken your education online, no more waiting for the certificate to be mailed to you; you can now print off the completion certificate right from your desktop when you have finished your program! Please refer to the Nevada DOIs website by clicking HERE.

Tennessee: Change Date 02/15/2011
Tennessee is also making some minor changes to their content outline effective as of 02/15/2011. The changes appear to be minimal and we are in the process of making sure that we incorporate these into your materials. It looks as if most of the Tennessee changes will surround new federal rules regarding healthcare and associated information... we'll be sure to watch it carefully for our students that are working in that great state. Watch the blog for information. Please click HERE for the current and new outlines!

As always, if you have any questions, concerns or comments, please let me know.
